No more training wheels with this week’s Meet a Mom! Kara Schulte of Simply Strong PT is a mom of two, teaches bikes camps, keeps moms active and helps kiddos get strong. Learn more about here and say hello!
Tell us a bit about yourself and your family:
Hey ya’ll, my name is Kara Schulte and I am mama bear to 2 energetic boys (Duke-5, Max-3) and our fur baby, Bernie (a lovable, 6 year old German Shepherd). My husband Erik and I are both from the great state of Ohio, but actually met in Dallas, Texas in 2012 at a bar cheering on our beloved Buckeyes. After sweeping him off his feet, we married in August of 2015 and went on honeymoon, bought a house and moved to Austin (for his job) in a busy 2-week whirlwind! Nowadays, you can find our family outside – playing baseball, soccer, exploring at parks, cooling down in a pool, bike riding and on Mondays – watching the garbage truck (Duke and Max are obsessed).
What is Simply Strong PT all about?
Simply Strong PT was founded in June 2020 and offers physical therapy and personal training for children, adolescents and adults in South Austin. Because of complications during COVID times, I realized flexibility was so important for myself and for clients and I wanted to create a practice that allowed for a family-like interaction in a natural, outdoor setting. With over 10 years of experience as a pediatric physical therapist and personal trainer, I am passionate about helping each person improve their mobility and become stronger to live their best life. Since opening in June of 2020, I have added additional programs like homeschool physical education classes and my personal favorite program – Bike Camp! Riding a bike is a lifelong activity that allows children to not only improve their coordination and motor skills, but also socialize with friends and family while doing a fun activity. The bike camps meet once per week for 4 weeks in a row and the children learn the various components of bike riding in an engaging, small group setting, with the child cruising on a two wheeler at the end of camp.
Our mission is to Give Moms the Gift of Time – what are you best tips/resources as a mom?
• Be present and active with your kiddos: get them outside, let them get dirty and tire them out because they will sleep and you will enjoy “YOU” time.
• Tell the kiddos at breakfast about the plan for the day so they know what to expect. The good and the bad (pediatrician appointment, gym with mommy, park, swim class, nap, etc).
• Set yourself up for success the night before – no one likes to be rushed in the morning. Pack lunch, set out their clothes, have breakfast options ready.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
My husband and I really want to see gorgeous Banff, Canada and Lake Louise (Google it if you aren’t familiar – breathtaking!) Australia & New Zealand are also on the list. When the kids get a little older, we plan on venturing out west to see the Grand Canyon and tour national parks.
We have to ask – favorite restaurants in Austin?
Depends who you ask…Mine are Taco Deli, Valentina’s, Carve, Jack Allen’s. If the kids get to pick it’s gong to be Waterloo, Doc’s or Graceland because dinner must include a playground!
