Small Business Saturday: Prep to Your Door - Greater Austin Moms

I think you’re really going to love this couple and the small business they’ve created. Meet Faiez and Heather, Co-founders of Prep to Your Door, an incredible subscription service bringing organic, plant-based, read-to-eat meals straight to your door.

Hi! Thanks for joining South Austin Moms. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hey! We’re Faiez and Heather, Co-Founders of Prep to Your Door (PTYD). We’re both Texans, Heather from Temple and Faiez from Houston. We met on a group project while we were in college at Harvard University. We bonded originally over being from Texas and our passion for education and sustainability. Within six months of dating, we’d settled in Austin and started PTYD. Our relationship and business grew simultaneously, and forced us to learn about each other at a speed that most relationships don’t necessarily have to.

Six years later, we are happily married, and proud parents of two dogs: our pug, Lulu, and brussels griffon, Albert. We’re currently training for a Half Ironman together in October. Early morning workouts are actually a key pillar of a happy and healthy relationship for us. It gives us time to talk, sweat, and share our happy workout endorphins with each other. Then we can split up and tackle the day in our respective domains. Our favorite weekend activity to unwind is to kick up our feet in a movie at Alamo Drafthouse.

What is Prep to Your Door all about?
Prep to Your Door is a subscription service that delivers 100% organic, plant-based, ready to eat meals and kitchen staples in a completely zero-waste experience. We’ve delivered over half a million meals without using any single-use plastic. All of our items come in glass packaging, and like the old school milk man, we pick up and reuse every piece of packaging each week. In college, we bonded over the difference we wanted to see in the world. We took long walks along the Charles River, dreaming about the future. One thing we had in common was a passion for sustainability and healthy food.

Through PTYD, we’re able to build a company that invests in the health of our community and our planet, by sourcing from local Texas farms, investing in soil regeneration, serving healthy food, and showing a way of doing business that doesn’t damage our environment.

Where do your see PTYD in the next five years?

We currently serve Austin and Houston, and see ourselves in Dallas and San Antonio as well. We see ourselves expanding from delivery only to having a one-of-a-kind, zero-waste grocery store concept as well. You can keep your eyes and ears open, because this a concept in the works that you’ve never seen anything like!

We want to make and serve the highest quality food that is humanly possible. Grown in the highest quality, most nutritious smiles, and prepared with the greatest level of love and care, with the intention to nourish and bring joy with every bite. We are on a mission to raise the bar for food and help transform the industry so that it is good for people and the planet.

What do you love about having a business in Austin?
When a customer tells us they have lost 70 pounds, or battled cancer or reserved a chronic illness by eating our food – it makes us emotional. What a privilege to be able to feed our community for a living. When we think about it, people are trusting us to serve them food which will go into their body and become part of them. When a mom shares that she feeds her family with out meals, it’s a trust that we take very seriously. Austin is truly the best city to start and own a business. Our city is so collaborative, supportive, and absolutely one of a kind.

What are your best time-saving tips as a small business owner?
Order from PTYD, obviously. You’ll save time, feel incredible and start to relate to food in a way that will change your life!
