Meet Naya - Greater Austin Moms

There is something praiseworthy about a mom who dedicates herself to helping other moms around her succeed on this motherhood journey. Especially in those early days when we are so unsure about ourselves, to have someone walk alongside us is priceless. Naya Weber, is just such a mom. This mother of 2 boys (ages 5 and 8 1/2) turned her own struggle with breastfeeding into a passion for postpartum families, providing in-home support in the early days at home with their new babies.

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

While my family and I moved to Austin from Dallas Fort Worth 5 years ago, I grew up in the northeast.

What is your favorite thing about living in Austin?

There is always a family-friendly activity to do, whether it’s a daytime/afternoon concert or a festival.

You’re so right! I love regularly searching for activities I can add to the South Austin Moms calendar. I get overwhelmed wishing we could do it all. What do you love to do with your family around town?

We love to hike and do outdoor activities, eat at new restaurants, and go swimming!

We definitely have it all in Austin. Now tell us about what you do and why you are passionate about it…

I’m an international board certified lactation consultant that works with families after they’ve been released from the hospital or birth center. My breastfeeding journey with my oldest was really difficult and it made me want to learn as much as I could about lactation. It quickly became a passion and I wanted to help families in an official way. My goal is to support each family’s individual goals, no matter what they look like. I provide compassionate in-home evidence based care to help families meet their goals.

I know you are involved in other ways in the community including a podcast for moms. Tell us about that!

I’m a member of the Central Texas Breastfeeding Coalition, Texas Breastfeeding Coalition, and have been a group leader for Partners in Parenting. I am also half of The Top Knot Squad, a podcast about motherhood in all of its vulnerability. We’re on our second season and it has been a great creative outlet.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

I’ve met some amazing women in my motherhood journey here in Austin. Some have gone on to help mamas adjust to their new roles and support them in different ways. It is all about community and finding your people! The connections I’ve made have been helpful with me finding my place in this community, and collaborating in improving postpartum life in a big picture kind of way.

It is always so rewarding when you help someone and they go on to pour into someone else. I’m so glad you get to see the fruit of that. One more question! What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you, Naya?

I used to belly dance with a troupe prior to having kids. Now I have no rhythm.

I’m sure its still in there somewhere! Or maybe, you’ve just found a new rhythm- one helping others find theirs in motherhood.
