This week, I get to introduce you all to Danielle Martinez, of Danielle Martinez Acupuncture and Wellness. What strikes me about this south Austin Mom is her dedication the wellness of the whole person: mental, emotional and physical. Read on to find out more about her passion, her journey to becoming an acupuncturist and her favorite things to do around Austin with her family…
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I grew up in the Dallas area, but moved to the Austin area as soon as I graduated. So I have been
an Austinite for about 15 years!
How many children do you have and how old are they?
Nicolai is 3 and Aria is 15 months
So sweet! And such beautiful names! What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I used to dance growing up- and still make the kiddos laugh breaking out a tap dance.. preferably
when wearing my cowboy boots.
I bet they love that! Your kids will cherish memories of you being silly with them. What is your favorite thing about living in Austin?
How multi leveled this city really is! It was nice to grow up here a bit, but now we enjoy so many fun family centered activities. The greenbelt is definitely a favorite of ours, from hiking to a dip in the water to cool off! Plus the vibe of Austin fits hand in hand with the holistic medicine that I have come to appreciate.
Austin is an amazing city pre-kids, but so family friendly too. What do you love to do with your family around town?
Recently, we have really been enjoying South Austin’s close proximity to the winery and brewery scene- so fun for both adults and kiddos to be outside, have some open space, and wonderful sunset views.
That is so much fun! Hopefully, we’ll run into you sometime. Tell us about Danielle Martinez Acupuntuce & Wellness. How did you get started and why are you passionate about it?
My personal draw towards acupuncture came in response to an ankle injury years ago, and it wasn’t until after sometime that I realized acupuncture treats the body as a whole, taking into account both the emotional and physical side of things. Very intrigued, and ready for a shift in life- I attended a four year Masters program at AOMA, met my hubby along the way, had two kiddos and became an accredited acupuncturist through NCCAOM, and a Licensed through the Texas Medical Board. After previously working for other people, the time finally came and I have had the honor of creating my own space in South Austin. Constantly shifting as a mom, wife, and practitioner to offer healthcare services focusing on integrating acupuncture, herbal formulas, nutrition, and lifestyle choices. My passion within acupuncture focuses on pain management, Women’s Health- from painful periods, fertility, pregnancy care, or post partum treatment, to cosmetic acupuncture (yes! it’s a thing! And helps boost collagen and elastin naturally!). The constant goal at Danielle Martinez Acupuncture & Wellness is to meet each person where they truly are, while providing a space to guide each individual alongside their own healthcare goals.
Are you involved in anything else within the community?
I have been working with a few really amazing yoga studios to provide a yoga and acupuncture experience that leaves people relaxed and rejuvenated. It is really amazing to offer something innovative, and have such a wonderful response. I also have worked with the NADA protocol, an auricular acupuncture protocol, to offer relief in a substance abuse population.
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Oh man, it takes a village! The long schooling hours, to studying boards, and demanding schedules- I have been blessed with a personal friend crew that just understands and always puts out a helping hand.
Professionally, Austin has such wonderful holistic and natural options when it comes to healthcare. And also, wonderful Western Healthcare providers that understand the beauty in coupling Western and Eastern medicines. It has been wonderful to walk alongside both modalities to achieve the best healing process for both myself and my clients.
