Meet Danielle - Greater Austin Moms

Moms, this mom gets you! Danielle Estrada is a recent transplant to Austin from LA and the mompreneur behind Olivia + Ocean- a revolutionary swimwear line for moms and their girls. Her website states, “Your ‘Mom Bod’ made miracles happen-show it some love.”  Read on to learn how she is redefining the “mom suit.’

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I am originally from Los Angeles. My family and I moved to Austin in August of 2018, so we have been here just over a year. In that year we started new jobs, bought our first house, and had a baby. It has been busy!

What a year! Transition can really be challenging in so many ways, but in all of the change there are so many blessings. Congrats on the new baby! Tell us about your daughters…

I have two daughters- Olivia, 4 and Elle, 10-weeks

What is your favorite thing about living in Austin so far?

I love how family friendly Austin is! So many things to do and places to hang out that have things both parents and kids will love. I feel like many businesses are focused on serving the modern family customer and that is really fun. We are always trying new breweries and restaurants that have fun things for our daughters like playgrounds and or board games at check-in. Makes life so much more fun!

What do you love to do with your family around town?

We frequent the live music nights at Central Market. That has become our go-to weekend spot. The fact that I can have fresh Sangria while watching Olivia on the playground and listening to live music is so perfect. We also will get out on the dance floor as a family as well which is such a great stress reliever after a long work week. Our other go-to on a nice day is East Austin Succulents. When we have an open afternoon and my daughter and I will spend some time browsing around all of the beauty and pick out some new plant babies for the house.

These are such great recommendations! I’m glad you’ve found these Austin treasures so quickly. So, tell us about Olivia + Ocean and how it came to be…

Olivia + Ocean’s mission is to empower and support every Mom who has struggled getting in a swimsuit post-baby.  Our luxury compression fabric and thoughtful design provides the support they want, in all the right places. The brand was inspired by my daughter, as well as my struggle to find a swimsuit brand after becoming a Mom that I identified with.  I was done with bikinis and I definitely didn’t have a “model body”. All the brand marketing out there just did not connect with me and did not feel inclusive. At the same time, I also wasn’t ready to get into a frumpy “mom swimsuit”. Instead I decided to reclaim that term and make something functional, stylish, and modern that supported Mom’s unique needs. Our goal is simply to get Moms in a swimsuit and feeling good about themselves.

I have personally struggled with this at the beginning of every summer since becoming a mom (my Instagram followers can attest) and I’m so thankful for what you are doing to revolutionize swimwear for moms.

Are there other ways you’re getting involved in the community?

I am actively looking for ways to get involved in the Austin community in a way that gives back. Our business does have a charitable component with a portion of the proceeds from each sale going towards helping provide clean water to families in need around the world via our partnership with water.org.

Love it! How has the community in Austin been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Our community has been other mother’s and entrepreneurs in Austin. We have felt so welcomed by them and supported. Even more so than we were in our hometown. Southern hospitality and kindness is real and it’s really special.

I agree! Before we say goodbye for now, what is one thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I am a huge stand-up comedy fan. Back in Los Angeles I attended shows at local clubs regularly since my early 20’s. I need to find a good spot to catch a show here still though. Send me your recommendations!

Oh my gosh, me too! My husband and I often watch a little Dry Bar Comedy on YouTube in the evening. Laughter truly is the best medicine.
