Why did you join The Local Moms Network?
I loved the idea of creating a mom tribe, and providing local resources that I am already researching myself. I also have a true passion for instilling confidence in others, speaking positive in your inner dialogue will change your life and hope to have an impact on momma’s in this way. I joined TLMN in December of 2019.
What were you doing before?
I work full time as a Regional Sales Manager for Favor Delivery and also have a Podcast called Girl, I Slept in My Makeup with my two sisters about encouraging growth, love, grace and compassion for yourself and those around you. I believe my full time career is helpful with my role at TLMN in understanding a market and the needs of the people there.
What is your favorite part of being part of the network?
The community of moms I have gotten to know thus far, and the support we provide each other.
What is your best “working mom” tip?
Easier said than done, but schedule blocking is a must. I find I function best in all my roles, when everything is scheduled.
What has been the hardest part of quarantine for you and how have you dealt with it?
In relation to TLMN, the hardest part of quarantine is that we had just launched Frisco Area Moms in December so it had only been a few months when quarantine hit in March. We had a bunch of events and momma meet ups planned that of course had to be cancelled, so felt like we lost our momentum a bit. It was tough to navigate how to be a helpful resource, with so many unknowns.
Personally, I think the hardest part of quarantine was just dealing with all my roles and feeling like I was contributing enough in all areas. Trying to work with kiddos home was pretty insane at first. But it got more manageable as I had to think about my priorities and really put a lot of work on hold; and put our family first. I am grateful for the extra time with my girls.
We can all relate! What are your plans for back to school?
We went back and forth until literally the day we had to make the decision. Our oldest turned 5 in July, so was starting Kindergarten. It was extremely difficult to make a decision, but ultimately with both my husband and I working full time and our school district opening; we made the decision to send her to school in-person. I think every family and every child is different, and this is what was best for us. I feel uneasy in some ways about this school year, but also excited for Jo and her first real school experience. What made me feel better about our decision was how much she loves it and was asking to go back on Saturday. I am praying daily for the health and safety for all the teachers and kiddos.
Such tough choices for all families! What is one thing most people don’t realize about your area?
I think a lot of people assume that you need to live in the city of Dallas to have things to do, but that’s not true anymore; the suburbs are fun! J Also, it is growing like crazy out here, lots of companies moving here, including the PGA HQ!
What’s your favorite quarantine activity?
I think one of my favorite times in quarantine was when we brought a bounce house inside because it was raining a ton in the Spring. We would play in it at least 3 times a day and loved it. Also, our daily dance parties on GoNoodle are so much fun!
Anything else you’d like people in your area to know about your site?
I just appreciate the support from everyone I’ve met thus far, and I appreciate the patience as we navigate these unprecedented times.
We love supporting local businesses. Can you please share your fave places in your area to:
