Meet a Mom: Kasey Norton of South Austin Moms - Greater Austin Moms

This week’s Meet a Mom interview is very exciting. Get to know Kasey Norton, my friend and the new Managing Editor of South Austin Moms.
Read more below about her background, family and places they like to go in Austin!

Tell us about yourself!
Hi! I’m Kasey and I’m so excited to be taking over South Austin Moms. I grew up in Austin until moving to California when I was 10 and spent most of my childhood in the Palm Springs area. After high school, I decided it was time to trade in the desert for the beach. I received my degree in Communications from the University of Hawaii. After graduating and pre-kiddos I did PR and marketing in San Diego and then worked for the City of Santa Clarita as part of the Communications team keeping the community informed about all things city-related. Little did I know what I was doing then would be so similar to what I am doing with South Austin Moms!

Tell us about your family!
While in San Diego after college, my best friend (hi Jenna!) and I played on an adult recreation league dodgeball team where we met (and later married!) best friends. Sean and I got engaged in February 2015 and got married that October. Shout out to my mom for planning a killer wedding in such a short time. When Sean’s job transferred us to Austin in 2017, I couldn’t believe it. I love it when things come full circle! We had our daughter, Blakely, in 2017 and our son Bowen in 2020. They’ll be 2 and 5 this summer. They’re loud, messy, curious, smart, silly and so much fun.

Why did you decide to take over this platform, continuing South Austin Moms and bringing The Local Moms Network to your town?
Erin has been my neighbor and closest friend for the last three years and after watching her manage South Austin Moms for the last year, I’ve seen how connected she has become to the community and what a joy it is for her to help parents get the information they need without sifting through endless Google searches. When she sadly told me her family was moving, I was so excited for the opportunity to take over South Austin Moms to continue sharing information with moms and dads in South Austin.

Go-to drink spot:
We like going to District Kitchen because it is close to the house and has nice outdoor seating and I also love going to El Alma for a margarita! But honestly, our favorite go-to drink spot is probably the couch!

Place you love to get coffee:
If you ask my kids, they’ll say Starbucks because they ask for banana bread and a cake pop every time. And while I am a frequent visitor to the Starbucks drive thru, I also love a Summer Moon chai.

Must-try restaurants, with and without kids:
My husband and I love Loro off South Lamar, as well as Ramen Tatsu-ya. We always say we’re going to try somewhere new for date night, but we just love those two spots so much! We are a cheeseburger and fries loving family, so it’s only natural that some of our favorite places to go with the kids have those options on the menu: Lil Doddy and In-n-Out (or as Blakely says, “Inside Out”). As far as playground options, they love going to Oasthouse off Slaughter Lane, Hat Creek, Flores and Waterloo Ice House.

Is there anything you want to say to our readers?
This opportunity to bring resources to our community is one that I am blessed to have. I can get chatty, so if you made it this far – thanks! If you see me and my family around town, please come say hello! And if you have any spots we need to check out, please reach out to me.
